Tom Peterson
​Tom and his family have lived in the City of Fairfax (Country Club Hills) for over 20 years. He is a native of Fairfax County and attended public schools before receiving his undergraduate degree in biology from the College of William and Mary, a master’s degree in environmental management from Duke University, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
Tom has served in many leadership positions. For the past two years, he has been Chair of the City’s Environmental Sustainability Committee and is deeply familiar with the challenges facing our community and the need to work more closely with the City on decisions affecting our future. Previously he served as a Senior White House Advisor and legislative aide in the US Senate.
Tom is also the founder, President and CEO of the nonpartisan Center for Climate Strategies and an adjunct professor at both Johns Hopkins University and George Mason University where he focuses on climate change policy development and community engagement. He has worked in federal and state government, business and finance, universities, and the nonprofit sector.
Tom is committed to helping people work together to create a better, safer, and more just world and has a long track record of building consensus among diverse community stakeholders.
